“Once I had a Dream”
I
remember that I woke up and the sun was so bright outside that it
seemed like it wanted to burst through the window of my little
bedroom. I got out of bed and asked my parents if I could go outside
and play on the front patio. I was probably 5 years old, but I do
remember looking up to the sky and feeling it was different. The day
was brighter then usual and the sky was unbelievably blue, even the
breeze was bringing a different odor. I was so puzzled.
A
sweet lady passing by on the street said "Good morning, you woke
up very early today young boy, but look what a beautiful day it is"
and she carried on her way to her sweet life, probably full of
cookies and delicious tea.
Boom!!!!
That's what it is... I thought about what the lady said for a second.
Somehow the fact that I woke up earlier that morning MADE the day a
more beautiful day for everybody. WOW I thought, "maybe I have a
gift?" Then I sat down on the floor waiting for people to pass
by so I could tell them.
A
gentleman walked by in a hurry with a newspaper under his arm, but I
yelled "Good morning sir, beautiful day isn't it? I made it."
I could see the surprise in the man's hurried face as he went away,
but me? Oh boy I was smiling. And that's how I spent that morning of
my childhood, waiting for people and telling them I was responsible
for the bright day.
This
is a true story of my childhood and to be honest it had such a
profound impact on me that I remember it even today. Now I can
see that the sense of affecting people around us kicked in for me
that day. Even if it wasn't real. The reaction of people was
addictive and amazing.
We
all daydream, we all have fantasies and wishes about stuff and
emotions, objects or relationships. Daydreaming is nothing but a
thought with sugar. But what about the real dream, the ones
that happen when we're actually sleeping? They are a projection or
recreation of our subconscious and when we wake up, most of the time
we don't even remember what our dream was about, like in my case.
So
what's the difference between a dream and a daydream?
A
dream has no boundaries. It's a result of all that our mind can
reproduce or project -- our expectations, our fears, our passions and
anxieties. But the daydream... that one is special... why?
Because it's the best of both worlds, our rationality kicks in, as
well as our ability to go out of the realm of probabilities and logic
to just dream. We lock away our fears and insecurities and we get
wings that make us free to dream of whatever makes us feel happy, BUT
in a way that might actually be possible of becoming a reality,
because when we're awake, our rational mind doesn't allow us to go
wild.
So
the beauty of daydreaming is that I truly believe that almost
everything we dream/think is actually possible to become real in the
future. And if you keep dreaming it, then something greater happens.
Some might call it faith, others might say it is us putting it out
into the Universe, but the truth is, that the more we keep
daydreaming about something, and the more we take steps towards that,
the more the chances are of it becoming real.
I
think as we grow up we tend to lose our ability to dream, I'm not
talking about the huge unachievable ones... sometimes people lose the
ability of having a good laugh about something stupid or mundane, or
just seeing something through an unusual perspective, as we used to
do when we were kids. We start losing the platform that allows dreams
to happen. I think the sense of logic can be obtained by
different species. But the ability to daydream, that leads to
the type of dreams that made Copernicus use logic and project his
dream and way of seeing life outside of the box, to say against all
the rules of the time that the Earth circles around the Sun and not
the other way around. And
it wasn't referring to a dream while asleep when Martin Luther King,
Jr. said:
"I
have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a
nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but
by the content of their character."
This,
my friends, this is all the stuff that dreams are made of. Specially
the ones that happen wile we're awake
Who
knows... Maybe that morning, a 5 year old really did make a
brighter day.
“Uma vez tive um Sonho”
Lembro-me
WOW eu
pensei, "talvez eu tenha um super-poder?" Então sentei-me
reacções e afectar as pessoas.
real no futuro. E se continuarmos a sonhar a mesma coisa, então algo
maior acontece.
Alguns
